According to the MTF survey data, as of 2017, 37.7% of households have access to electricity through the national grid, 4.7% of households primarily use off-grid solutions and the remaining 57.6% of households don’t have access to electricity.  Using the MTF definition, 40.3% of the households are in Tier 1 or above.  The discrepancy between urban and rural access is substantial. 74.8% of urban households access electricity through the national grid, yet the majority of rural households (88.1%) have no access to any electricity sources.

As of 2017, in Zambia, three types of cookstoves are most commonly used by households as primary cooking solutions: open-fire stoves (46.7%), manufactured traditional mbaula (36.2%) and electric stoves (16.5%).  Only a negligible portion of households use improved stoves (0.4%) or LPG/natural gas (0.1%).  Based on the MTF definition for cooking, 16.8% of households are in Tier 3 and above.
